Liberty and Co. walnut “Medina” Bureau c1890. Designed in the Moorish style popular in the late 19th century with a detailed mashrabiya frieze to the top above a narrow shelf and a superb Liberty’s pattern pleated silk screen. The fall front rests on the baize cushioned drawer to reveal the original green baize and fitted pigeon holed interior. Original copper ring pull handles. Below is an arched recess with fitted shelf all supported on fine tapering legs. Measurements approx 138 cms high 64 cms wide 38 cms deep.
Condition is very good with a few minor blemishes expected with a piece of 125 year old antique furniture. The interior green baize would benefit from replacement but we prefer to keep everything as original as possible.
This fine quality “Medina bureau” was sold by liberty & Co London the leading Arts and Crafts retailers of the 19th and 20th century. Photographed with the bureau are several pieces of “Monart” glass also sold at Liberty’s in the early 20th century.
